SPUN

1998 / KELLER WILLIAMS

Spun was my third studio album, which I recorded in a small studio in Virginia Beach on used two-inch analog tape by a dude named Stacey who said he was Bowies guitar player during the Let’s Dance Tour. He was an interesting cat. He said he mastered the record and I believed him because it sounded good on my boom box. Today, I’d like nothing more than to re-master Spun but…..just like I recorded over someone else’s session on the used analog reel to reel tape, someone recorded over my tapes as well, meaning there are no masters. This record feels like my live show sounded at the time, without a lot of other instrumentation. This is before I began looping and is mostly just myself and the guitar, although I did bring in a classically trained upright bass player, Scott Harris, to play the bow bass on the song “Stargate” named after the ocean front crack hote I lived at from November to February – 3 winters in a row with my wife and 2 dogs. That time in my life I wouldn’t trade for anything. Ahhhh to be spun.
